Cheong Talay is a relaxed part of Phuket’s west coast, close to some of the island’s nicest beaches. Bang Tao Beach is the main beach in the area, with a long stretch of sand, tall trees and plenty of space to find a quieter spot. It’s a nice place for a morning walk, a swim, or to stay until sunset.
The area also includes Laguna Beach, within the Laguna Phuket area. It sits along the same stretch of Bang Tao Bay and is surrounded by lagoons, greenery and resort areas. It’s a pleasant area for a walk by the water, enjoying the beach, or stopping for something to eat while watching the sunset.
If you prefer somewhere quieter, Layan Beach is at the northern end of Bang Tao. It has a more natural feel, with trees and small local restaurants nearby, and is a lovely place to spend a relaxed afternoon.
The area around Cheong Talay has a nice mix of local life and places that are convenient for visitors. You’ll find small Thai restaurants, cafés, fresh markets and shops alongside the more modern restaurants and cafés around Boat Avenue and Porto de Phuket.
There are also several local night markets around Cheong Talay and Bang Tao. The Bang Tao Night Market is a good place to try simple Thai street food, snacks and local dishes, while the Friday market around Boat Avenue has food stalls and a more relaxed evening atmosphere. These markets are a nice way to experience a more local side of the neighborhood rather than spending every evening at restaurants.
It’s a good area for guests who want to be close to the beach without staying in one of Phuket’s busier tourist areas. There are plenty of places to eat and explore nearby, while the west coast beaches, local markets and quieter spots around Layan are easy to reach by car or scooter.
